As long as man has sailed the seven seas, there have been pirates! The golden age of piracy was from the late 16th to mid 17th century. Though piracy happened all over the world, much was happening in the area from the southern coast of South America through the Caribbean to the northern coast of Florida. This area was known as the "Spanish Main" - it is from here that many ships filled with old and treasure from the New World set sail back to Europe.
